    DLR S&C Track Slab Renewal’s

September 30th, 2020 Posted by 0 thoughts on “DLR S&C Track Slab Renewal’s”

    Project Details

Railtech Innovations were the responsible contractor commissioned, by the principal contractor ASH Civil Construction, to complete a challenging S+C renewal and re-rail over the August 2020 bank holiday weekend. Our client, Docklands Light Railway, had identified the need for a life expired swing nose S+C crossing, to be replaced with a fixed nose cast crossing as well as the remainder of the S+C layout ironwork.

Additionally,  we re-railed two hundred metres of plain line rail around a 60mtr curved radius which was a challenge in itself. The new design required existing baseplates, grout pads and holding down bolts, within the layout to be replaced and altered to accommodate the new components and to allow for the gauge to be corrected.

One of the major challenges we faced during this delivery was management of the risk presented by COVID-19, detailed risk assessments were produced and implemented on site including the provision of a ‘COVID pack’ for every member of staff at the start every shift containing new PPE and disinfectant. Welfare facilities, were above and beyond the normal requirements,  and included a 24hr cleaning team to ensure the site was as safe as possible.

To date the directors of Railtech Innovations and ASH Civil Construction are extremely pleased that no member of staff or contractor involved in the project has reported any symptoms of the virus.

Paddington Point cloud survey – Heathrow Express

September 24th, 2018 Posted by 0 thoughts on “Paddington Point cloud survey – Heathrow Express”

    Project Details

The project scope was to install train stopping sensors to the face of the Heathrow Express trains designated platforms within Paddington station.

The designer had specified a point cloud survey to be undertaken so that gauge clearance could be assessed beforehand. Some concourse features where required also for designing the power units so a 3d Laser scan was the way to go.

As the platform is full of history and designed by one of the greatest Engineers of all time, we were all fighting to do this one!

Lincoln High Street – Automated track monitoring

September 24th, 2018 Posted by 0 thoughts on “Lincoln High Street – Automated track monitoring”

    Project Details

Providing track monitoring support for a lineside building project being undertaken by Marcus Worthingtons Ltd.

Our remit included the provision of a track monitoring plan compliant to Networks Rail Standards (NR\L2\CIV\177) that detailed the full process and scope. This was submitted to and accepted by the NR TME.

Due to the longevity of the project and restricted track access, an automated track monitoring system was specified.

Readings were captured twice hourly for 4 months whilst the building/piling works were taking place. Automated fault reporting was used to notify all parties in real time which allowed full protection of the operation railway.

Daily analysis and reporting were carried out by our monitoring support staff during this time with results distributed daily to the relevant Engineering/construction teams.

Canal Tunnels was part of the Thameslink programme, where the scope was to fit out the 2 650mtr tunnel bores that went below St Pancras station and surfaced in York Way, North of Kings Cross Station. The new connection would then link the Thameslink network to the East Coast Main Line.

We were the lead Engineers supporting the principal contractor (Carillion Rail) and were responsible for the following:

    • Simulating tunnel conditions with a test track for perfecting best practices
    • Installation and management of the survey control network
    • Design data preparation and development with designers
    • Logistics planning and programming
    • Setting out using the latest in track trolley technologies (Amberg GRP 3000)
    • Utilisation of Rhomberg’s track support systems
    • Quality assurance and development of inspection and test plan procedures
    • Over 1500 mtrs of new slab track was installed including a DV crossover. All track was installed within NR tolerance limits first time, on time and under budget
